At the beginning of 2010, we became part of a new nationwide steering group committed to reviewing and developing the training requirements for thin joint masonry systems. At the time, there were no established nationally recognised training programmes in the UK for thin joint systems.

Working with CITB ConstructionSkills, the group has developed a training specification designed to meet the theoretical and practical needs of experienced bricklayers who have a limited knowledge of thin joint systems. This training specification can also used for the training of management and technical staff who need to familiarise themselves with thin joint technology and the range of systems available. A CSCS card will be available in thin joint systems but only to those persons who complete the course and already hold a CSCS bricklayers card.

The training will communicate the benefits and values of using a thin joint building system and associated technology, most notably the creation of a highly energy efficient building along with the volume of work that can be completed in the available timeframes This programme also serves to provide information on the Code for Sustainable Homes and the sustainability agenda in general.
